お茶(ocha)の(no)豆知識(mame’chishiki)

[1] Ocha is a typical Japanese drink, and the largest area of production is Shizuoka Prefecture.

お茶は(ocha ha)日本の(nihonn no)代表的な(daihyouteki na)飲み物で(nomimono de)、最大の(saidai no)生産地は(seisannchi  ha)静岡県です(shizuokaken desu)。

[2] There are even some schools in Shizuoka that have ocha on tap.

静岡には(shizuoka niha)蛇口から(jyaguchi kara)お茶が(ocha ga)出る(deru)学校も(gakkou mo)あります(arimasu)。

[3] Nowadays, the room in which family members gather is called a living room, however, it used to be called a chanoma (tea room), since family members had tea in this room.

近年は(kinnnen ha)家族が(kazoku ga)集う(tusdou)部屋は(heya ha)リビングルームと(ribingu’ru-mu to)呼ばれてますが(yobarete masu ga)、家族が(kazoku ga)この部屋で(kono heya de)お茶を(ocha wo)飲んでいたことから(nonndeita koto kara)「茶の間」と(chanoma to)呼ばれてきました。(yobarete kimasita)

[4] A tea stalk floating upright in the tea cup is called a chabashira ga tastu (stand tea stalk) and is a lucky omen.

お茶の茎が(ocha no kuki ga)茶碗の中で(cha no nakade)立っている(tatte iru)ことを(koto wo)「茶柱が立つ」(chabashira ga tatsuと言いますが(to iimasu ga)、縁起がいい(engi ga ii)とされます(to sare masu)。

[5] In addition, the phrase ocha wi nigosu (muddying the tea) is also often used. This means “giving an evasive answer.”

また(mata)、「お茶を濁す」(ocha wo nigosu)という(toiu)慣用句も(kanyoku)よく使われます(yoku tsukaware masu)。「適当なことを(tekitouna koto wo)言って(itte)その場しのぎ(sonoba shinogi)をする(wo suru)」という(toiu)意味です(imi desu)。
